Shirley Conservation Commission
1966 Annual Report

The Board of Selectmen, in accordance with a Town Meeting vote, appointed seven members to constitute a Conservation Commission, under the General Laws, Chapter 40, Section 8-C, as amended.

The following named persons were appointed to the Commission in December 1966: Robert Artist, Thomas Evans, Roy Warner, Ernest Mitchell, William Farnsworth, Sr., Melvin Longley, John Farrar, Jr.

The purposes of the Conservation Commission shall be, in part "for the promotion and development of the natural resources and for the protection of the watershed resources of said city or town." "Said commission may acquire by gift, purchase, grant, bequest, demise, lease or otherwise the fee in such land or water rights -- as may be necessary to acquire, maintain, improve, protect, limit the future use of, or otherwise conserve and properly utilize open spaces and other land and water areas within the city or town and shall manage and control the same."
