The Shirley Conservation Commission currently has an opening. The Commission is a volunteer board appointed by the Board of Selectmen. This is an opportunity for individuals to learn more about the public values that wetlands provide, such as flood control and prevention of pollution of water supplies, and the legal mechanisms for protecting these areas.
It is not necessary to have technical training in the environmental field, but a willingness to devote time and effort to learning about wetlands and regulations is necessary. Commissioners must have an open and unbiased mind and be able to make objective decisions based on complicated facts. Ability to work with many personalities is helpful. Commissioners are expected to consistently attend at least two regularly scheduled meetings per month (Tuesday evenings from June through September, Wednesday evenings from October through May), as well as occasional site visits.
Interested individuals can obtain more information from the Conservation Administrator, Anne Gagnon, at 978-425-2600 x245 or agagnon@shirley-ma.gov. Applicants should send a letter of interest and resume to the Board of Selectmen at 7 Keady Way, Shirley, MA 01464. Please send a copy of the letter and resume to the Conservation Commission at 7 Keady Way, Shirley, MA 01464.
